If your score is:

You have a wonderful opportunity to spend time on you. The saying, “you can’t give what you don’t have” is perfect here for you. You are best served to start with thinking about your own purpose, thinking about what are your own gifts, to you understand what people value of you? Read A Pocket Guide to Purpose to start your purpose journey then continue reading this book. As a place holder, consider adopting the purpose, “Grow and Give” while you are in the midst of accessing your unique purpose.

Also, if you have no interest in spending time on your purpose then focus on advancing your team and company’s purpose.

10 – 16

You have some clarity about your purpose, how to and would benefit from spending time of honing in on it so that you can leverage it quickly in all parts of your life. You will benefit thinking more about your purpose and what it looks like if you were living it the majority of the time.  Considering scheduling time on your own or even better, find a purpose partner, (a co-worker, friend, spouse…) who you can answer the questions with and help each other advance both of your purposes.

You are in a great position to leverage your purpose in a number of ways including with your team, your community, family and most importantly for you. Now the fun shall continue! Questions to consider: Where and how can you live your purpose more fully? What might be your next purpose growth challenge? You have a low understanding of your team purpose, specifically how your own purpose contributes to the team’s purpose as well as how to help advance the team’s purpose. Questions to consider: Why is your team here? What unique role does it play in the organization? How might your purpose help advance the team’s purpose?

You have a moderate understanding of your team’s purpose and how your purpose connects to your team.  You would benefit spending time on exploring questions with your team including, “What do our customers most value about what we do?”, “what makes me and us most proud about the work we do?” And once you have this, asking how well are we living our team purpose?

17 – 21

VERY COOL – You have a good grasp on your team’s purpose and how to you can contribute to helping advance it. Now the question is what is next for you to amp it up. Questions for you: What would it take to 10x your team’s purpose? How well are you all aligning your strategy, metrics, decision making to your purpose? How aligned do you feel your team members are to how you are seeing the team live its purpose?


Organization

If your score is:

3 – 9

You are not alone. At this time, you do not feel very connected to your organization’s purpose and could be for a number of reasons ranging from not understanding its purpose to not seeing how it connects to your purpose. You may be very happy in your role but feeling a gap with how your talents best fit into advance your company overall. Questions to consider: Who in your company may have better insight to the organization’s purpose? Who knows you well in Organization, appreciates your talents who can help you see how the dots connect? What might be possible if you make a stronger link here?

10 – 16

You have a moderate understanding of your organization’s purpose and how your purpose fits to the organization, as well as how to help advance your company’s purpose. You are feeling there is a gap however between the connection of your purpose and the company’s purpose. See “questions to consider” in the previous paragraph to help advance your thinking here. Additional questions to consider include: How may your purpose help advance the organization’s? What might this look?

Well done! You have a great grasp on the organization’s purpose and understand how the dots connect between your purpose and the organization’s. You also understand how you to help advance the organization’s purpose as well. Now the question is how do you expand this ability in two main areas – for your team and for others in the Organization. Questions to consider: How well does your team connect to the organization’s purpose and what can you do to help advance the team in this area given your understanding? How may the Organization better benefit from your and/or your team’s purpose? Are there other teams that may be able to leverage your team more in support of the organization’s purpose?

You are in the right place. Overall scored low across the board in areas of your purpose, the teams and the organizations as well as not having the clarity yet of how the puzzle pieces fit together. The pages ahead will help you access and advance your own purpose, your teams and help you connect the dots to the organization’s purpose depending upon the clarity of each. The two main starting points for you will be your purpose and your team’s especially if you are leading the team. If you are not leading the team, then the best place to start with this work is you! For this is who you have most control over!

Assess where you have the most energy as well as where is the greatest need? You may realize that by helping your team, you can help yourself in the meantime. What would this look like for you?
